Saint John the Apostle Parish in Natovi, Tailevu, is looking at opening a new multi-million dollar church by 2028.
This was confirmed by parish chairperson Pita Vedewaqa.
He said the villagers nearby, who were members of the parish, had been planting yaqona to raise funds for the project.
Their target is to plant more than 15,000 plants in the next four years.
The members will also be planting yasi and more than 1000 pine trees to fund the new parish church.
Mr Vedewaqa said they had more than 500 acres of freehold land available that they would use to plant on.
As part of the multi-million dollar project, the Catholic Women’s League members led by the Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Mereseini Vuniwaqa, planted more than 10 pine trees yesterday.
