Over 5,000 people have been assisted through Sai Prema Foundation Fiji’s “Health on Wheels” medical outreach program within the last three years.
Project coordinator Namrata Tappoo highlighted that the Foundation takes a well-equipped medical team into the rural areas where it sets up camp and encourages the entire community to take advantage of the free services available.
“The project is about taking healthcare to those who are unable to access medical services because of their socio-economic situation,” Namrata Tappoo said.
A team of doctors, medical professionals and volunteers once a month spend an entire Saturday to serve.
Some services offered in these monthly outreach camps include:
-triage and health screening checks
-general medical consultations
-dental services and procedure
-eye checks and free reading glasses
-dieticians checks
-obstetrics and gynaecological consultations
-heart screening for children
-prostate tests for men
-physiotherapy
-tuberculosis screening.
All medications are also provided for free
Latest camp in Tailevu:
The latest camp was last Saturday in Waidalice, Tailevu.
A 50 member team comprising of doctors, health professionals, One Fiji Volunteers and members of Sai Prema Foundation spent their Saturday serving 180 villagers in Waidalice and the surrounding region.

Since its inception 3 years ago, the Foundation has:
-conducted 71 free heart surgeries for the children suffering from congenital heart disease,
-served 6,000 patients for free at the Sai Sanjeevani Medical Centre,
– 360 children have received free heart screenings in the rural villages
– 240 children have received free heart screening at the newly opened Sai Sanjeevani Children’s
Heart Screening Centre.
– Regular groceries and meals have been distributed to underprivileged and needy families to
provide for 66,000 meals.
– 2,250 pints of blood have been collected in partnership with the National Blood Service.
