No visitors will be entertained in the village of Nabouciwa, in the tikina of Buretu, Tailevu, as precautionary measures have been implemented by a special committee.
This is the second village in the province of Tailevu to make such an announcement. The first was Bau.
Village head Inoke Livanisiga said: “Last week, a special committee sat and discussed the safety and protection measures that need to be followed by the villagers.
“We have taken extreme precautions and have stopped people from our village living in towns and cities or outsiders to cross the borders that we have erected outside village boundaries.
“Do not come if you do not have any business whatsoever with us.”
These measures have been put in place to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus, which is in line with requests on social distancing from the Government and health experts. A curfew has also been enforced from 10pm to 5am.
Mr Livanisiga is calling on the villagers to follow the measures put in place by the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organisation (WHO).
“All forms of gatherings have been put on hold,” he said.
“There will be no gatherings of more than 20 people at any time. Village heads will also monitor the movements of village members.”
He stressed that any kava sessions will now have less than 20 people and a two-metre social distance will be practised during the sessions.
The tikina of Buretu is located at least 20 minutes outside of Nausori Town near the Nakelo district.
