More than 3800 people in Tailevu will benefit from the newly-commissioned $20 million Namau Water Treatment Plant.

Water Authority of Fiji chief executive officer, Barry Omundson, said the project would provide clean, safe water to villages and would soon include other villages along the Kings Highway.

The new plant will supply water to Korovou Town, five of its surrounding villages, three schools and three farming communities.

While commissioning the project, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said before the plant was built, Korovou town suffered irregular supply of partially clean water.

He said the plant would save the country $50,000 annually in water carting costs. Government has identified 12 villages, six settlements, seven schools and two farming communities in Vulagi and Waidalice that will also access treated water from Namau.
