It was just another day at work yesterday for market vendor, Lenaitasi Kuruvoli and his wife.

They left their home in Nadranu Village, Tailevu, with their daughter at 5am and were selling their produce at the market by 7am.

“I told my wife we can celebrate Christmas and New Year’s everyday but we need to keep in mind there is a family to be feed, a child’s stationery to be bought and goals to achieve,” Mr Kuruvoli said.

“We have set some goals for ourselves this New Year and in order to achieve them we need to make sacrifices right from day one,” he said.

The couple have an adopted child who will be in year one this year.

“I do not drink alcohol nor do I drink kava or smoke, I have left this so that I could continue to focus on the goals I have put in place.

“I plan to cash out a vehicle this year and that is after I see that all educational needs of our child are satisfied at the beginning of the new school year.”

He has advised Fijians to be ambitious and not let anyone come in the way of their dreams.

“We hope to set an example to youths and young married couples out there that in order to achieve your goals you need to make sacrifices, you can still sleep in peace even if your friends decide to party on New Year’s day.

“Sacrifice now and when you reap its benefits, you will look back and say that it was a sacrifice worth making.”
