Xavier College student Veniana Stephanie hopes to win gold for the Ba-based school in her last year at the now postponed Coca-Cola Games.

Stephanie, 18, took part in the senior girls 4 x 100 metres during the Athletics Fiji competition at the Churchill Park in Lautoka on Saturday.

“I will be part of our 4 x100 team and everyone is working hard.

“ We know that come the Coke Games we will have to perform so we are going to prepare well this 14 days and make sure we are ready when the game starts.”

“There’s a lot of competition as last year we did not have any games and everyone is trying hard.”

“Since this is our last year, we’re going for gold in Suva.”

“Preparations have been tough but everyone is trying to earn a spot,” she said.

“We were supposed to take part last year but cancelled due to the COVID -19 pandemic. We were supposed to take part in the 200 metres but we got sick so we only ran in the 4 x100 metres.”

The Raralevu, Tailevu native with maternal links to Nailaga, Ba said the Xavier College quartet managed to break the record for the senior girls 4x 100 metres during the Coca- Cola Ba Zone.

“About 86 took part on Saturday and we will leave for Suva on Wednesday after our Term One examination,” she said.

Xavier College initially scooped the girls and boys division during the Ba Zone on March 18.

The boys amassed 32 gold, 19 silver and 16 bronze and the girls collected 24 gold, 16 silver and 14 bronze medals.

Meanwhile the Coca Cola Games have been cancelled until further notice.
