A farmer in Korovou, Tailevu is still trying to come to terms with the fact that his cattle died in an accident on Tuesday morning.
The cattle farm located before Waito Village, Balmindar Singh said he suffered a huge loss and claimed that the cost of the 15 cows would be around $150, 000.
Mr Singh said he had about 100 cows and it was after milking them on Tuesday morning that they were taken to the paddock.
“We do have accidents where we lose our livestock, but this is the first time for me to lose a lot in one accident.
“I did not expect to lose these many cows in a day but there is nothing I can do about it.
“Now I must see how I can get another 15 to 20 cows to replace what I lose. There are a lot of regulations and requirements for me to follow before I can get them,” he said.
He added that social media had wrongly stated that the cows were involved in the accident where three vehicles collided with each other but that was not the case.
“The accident of my cow and the accident of the three vehicles happened on the same day but two hours apart,” he alleged.
Meanwhile, Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the driver of a heavy goods truck allegedly failed to control his vehicle and hit the cows.
She added that the driver allegedly saw a boy herding the cows to the other side of the road, but however could not control the truck resulting in the incident.
A taxi driver is also in serious condition.
