Nadroga started its INKK Farebrother Fiji Rugby Trophy campaign with a 24-10 win over Tailevu, today.

The Stallions were too strong for the hosts in its Skipper Fiji Rugby Championship clash at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori.

Nadroga team manager Sikeli Basiyawa said the win sets the platform for their Farebrother challenge.

“We are now in the top four and that matters to us right now,” he said.

“This is a stepping stone to our challenge in two-week time.

“We will have to work on our discipline and a lot of areas that we need to improve on.

“We have a young side and there has been a lot of challenges.

“The next two weeks we will be preparing very well for that challenge.

“We will have to work very hard against a good Nadi side who are the holders.”

What happened: Both teams started strongly with Nadroga dominating possession.
Nadroga scored the first try through flanker Ilikimi Naruma in the 11th minute with Jack Volavola’s conversion making it 7-0.
Tailevu replied with a try to full-back Osea Qamasea to narrow the deficit 7-5 in the 16th minute.
Naruma scored his second try in 20th minute with Volavola converting for a 14-5 lead.
Nadroga wing Panapasa Qeruqeru finished off a brilliant backline move to score under the sticks and Volavola adding the extras.

Halftime: Tailevu 5-21 Nadroga

Volavola kicked over a penalty to extend their lead 24-5. Semi Degei scored a consolation try for Tailevu to bring the final scores to 24-10.

Skipper results:
