Rugby League convert, Paula Nayacakalou, is determined to make it happen in rugby union so he can support his family.
Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, Nayacakalou said being named as the 13th player in the Fiji Airways Fijian men’s sevens team is the first step towards bigger and better things.
“I’ve been chasing for this for some time,” the former Kaiviti Silktails rugby league centre said.
“I thank the coach and management for having faith in me. Looking at the tournament and this group of players we are in good hands.”
Nayacakalou hails from Noco in Rewa and has maternal links to Vunimono in Bau, Tailevu.
Nayacakalou is hopeful of a miracle so he can make his debut in the HSBC World Sevens Series at the Hong Kong tournament, this weekend.
Nayacakalou was part of the rugby academy at Lelean Memorial School in Davuilevu, Nausori.
He also played for Rewa before joining the Silktails.
“This is new for me but I’m finally here,” he said.
“I have to make it happen, it is not hard to do it.
“My target is to make it happen so I can support my family,” he added.
Nayacakalou played for Tabadamu in the local sevens competitions where he was identified and drafted into the Fijian men’s sevens training squad.
