Roko Sereana Laid To Rest

Veisama Village Methodist Church in Nakelo, Tailevu, was full to capacity as they farewelled the Marama Vunivalu e Dravuni Roko Sereana Vocoga Covunisiga yesterday.

The funeral was also attended by the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama, and his family.

Village spokesperson Sekove Bigikitibau said some of the villages that came under her chiefly leadership were Vunivaivai, Tumavia and Dravuni.

“Even though she did not live in the village, she made sure that she fulfilled her obligations as a chief,” he said.

“Whenever the village was assigned to carry out duties; she would come down to the village to see that people are abiding by it and it was fulfilled; she made sure that the  reputation of the village was not tarnished,” he said.

Mr Bigikitibau said she was a woman of integrity and a strong leader; whenever a task was assigned to Veisama Village, she would make sure it was carried out to perfection.

He said the body of the late Marama Vunivalu Dravuni was scheduled to be laid to rest in Kaba where she had maternal links

A retired primary teacher by profession, she was married to the former Tui Namuka from Macuata in Vanua Levu.

She was laid to rest at the chiefly burial ground in Muana, Nakelo in Tailevu.
