A woman is on a mission to turn trash into treasure.

Litia Butuivalu is the mastermind behind Liuvi Creations, a creative arts business, which operates out of Naselai Village, Tailevu.

“Always remember not all things are rubbish,” she said.

“You can use it to beautify your home and cut cost.”

She earns close to $200 weekly.

She hopes to address the unnecessary waste disposal in Naselai, through her business.

She makes creative crafts using recycled materials such as used containers, bottles, shells and old tapa.

Ms Butuivalu said the products were made into jewellery, vases, jewellery box and decorative bottles.

The items are used as centerpiece for birthday and wedding functions.

“When I started in 2018, I didn’t see it as a business,” she said.

“I worked on my creativity skills and people started to love the idea.”

Mrs Butuivalu said there was an increase in the littering problem in Fiji.

Her business expanded into other venture, which include making roqoroqo packages, tekiteki’s and recently includes making hairpins.

The retired nurse plans to sell her products in hotels, office and schools.

“Start small and dream big. Use available resources to bring out the creativity in you.”
