Tight defence and smart tactical decisions were the very components that drove Tailevu to a 22-17 upset win over Nadi in their Skipper Cup clash in Nausori on Saturday.
This was revealed by Tailevu head coach Samisoni Bakeitoga after the win at Ratu Cakobau Park.
“Our main objective before the game was to defend our turf, stay composed and communicate in the field,” he said.
“We had the lead at halftime, so I told the players to maintain discipline and their defensive line speed.”
Bakeitoga said he had faith in the team’s tactical game system.
“I believe the impact players had done their job when they had come in the last 10 minutes.
“The super subs managed to turn the final result to our favour in the last two minutes of the game.”
Bakeitoga said they would need to polish their lineout and discipline.
“We’ll go back to the drawing board, and we’ll try to defend our turf against Lautoka,” he said.
“I urge Tailevu fans to come out in numbers for our next match and I also like to acknowledge our sponsors as well.”
Bakeitoga said the win has boosted their players confidence of winning a spot in the Skipper Cup quarterfinals.
“The physio will look at our two injured players with the hope that they will recover well.
“We have replacement players to cover for these injured players if need be.”
