The Tailevu rugby team will need to put on a much improved performance if they are to beat Macuata at Subrail Park in Labasa on Saturday.

This was the view of Tailevu head coach Samisoni Baikeitoga who was still disappointed of their shock loss to Lautoka, last weekend.

“We have four players suffering from injuries, but we have replacements that are raring to go,” he said.

“We will need to work smart, play as a team as we lacked urgency in our line speed against Lautoka.”

Baikeitoga said his players need to be critical in their decision making on the field.

“They (players) had the opportunity to kick for goals, but they opted to punt for a lineout,” he said.

“We need to play smart to win because we are hungry for the win.”

Baikeitoga said Macuata would be a tough opponent on their home ground but I believe we can get the job done.

“The loss to Lautoka last week will motivate us to work hard and win this game,” he said.

“We know we have the strength, but the players will need to work hard and put their bodies on the line.”

Baikeitoga said his young side has grown with maturity after gaining valuable game time.

“They will need to work for 80 minutes and not 40 minutes. The players need to adhere to the referee’s call like offside line and stealing the ball as these small things count in the game.”

Baikeitoga said he was confident that his team would defeat Macuata.

“I usually tell the players to work hard, veilomani (take care of each other) and the results will come.

“We will need to push forward with momentum, try to cross their advantage line and go for the score.”

Baikeitoga said they would also need to work on their lineouts, scrums and set piece.

“I urge the Tailevu rugby fans in Vanua Levu to come down to Subrail Park and support your team,” he said.
