Isoa Dakunimata, the newly elected head boy of Marist Brothers High School, will lead the all-boys institution through the upcoming academic year.
A Year 9 student when he first joined the school in 2021, Isoa envisioned one day taking on the leadership role. His dream became real yesterday when the 18-year-old was formally inducted at the school’s ceremony at Lambert Hall.
Isoa acknowledged the significant responsibilities that came with his new position.
“It has always been my dream to lead. Being badged as head boy means my silent prayers have been answered. Now, it’s time to work with my fellow students to achieve academic excellence,” he said.
“My upbringing has been crucial in shaping my behaviour and values, teaching me how to lead with dignity.”
He is from Cautata, Bau, Tailevu.
“There is more to life than just sports. I believe education should be used effectively to equip students like me to become agents of change both in school and beyond,” he said.
Marist Brothers High School principal Asish Dayal expressed optimism about the future, as key figures outlined the school’s ambitious goals for the year.
“The mood was optimistic as we discussed our vision for the year,” Mr Dayal said.
“We are excited to embrace the opportunities ahead and aim to make this year a ‘golden year’ for Marist.”
With a clear vision for success, the school plans to focus, not only on academic excellence but also on discipline and sports, emphasising the importance of well-rounded development.
Mr Dayal said the school prefects had committed themselves to upholding strong values, drawing inspiration from the school’s pillars and the legacy of past alumni.
“This day also marks the official beginning of a partnership between students, teachers, and the broader community a collaborative effort to elevate the school. As the head of school said, our goal is to create an environment where both students and teachers can thrive,” Mr Dayal said.
“We can only achieve this with the support of our parents, friends, and key partners such as the Ministry of Education.”
