A young man’s dream of getting a quality and successful secondary education away from home was finally achieved yesterday.

Eighteen-year-old Jason Lafai from Tuvalu could not contain his excitement when he was awarded the Dux award during the Queen Victoria School’s prizegiving ceremony in Matavatucou, Tailevu, yesterday.

Mr Lafai travelled from Tuvalu five years ago in search of better education.

He said at first it was tough especially because of the language and culture. However,  he overcame all as years went by until his success yesterday.

“I’m excited. I was well prepared for it because the reason I was put here was in search for better education and today it’s all paid off,” he said.

“After what I have achieved today I can say that it was worth coming all the way from Tuvalu and sacrificing everything and living the life here at this prestigious school,” he said.

Jason hopes to secure a scholarship to study civil engineering next year.

He dedicated his achievement to his parents. His father, Elia Lafai, travelled all the way from Tuvalu to witness Jason graduate with flying colours yesterday.
