Elenoa Vukea of Naibita Village, Tailevu was a happy woman yesterday after finally receiving building materials from the Government’s Help for Home initiative.

The 77-year-old said her house was partially damaged during Tropical Cyclone Winston in February.

“Our kitchen roof was blown away during the cyclone and one of the hardest things we faced was when it rained, the whole house would leak,” Ms Vukea said.

She was grateful for the efficient and quick response by retail hardware company, Kasabias Limited.

Kasabias Projects Supervisor, Jainan Lal said the need and urgency to supply materials to the villagers is paramount.

“Villagers are still living in tents so our main priority is to deliver the materials as soon as the cards have been issued to villagers,” said Mr Lal.

About 20 Naibita villagers had their homes either destroyed or partially damaged during the cyclone. Two have been assisted so far.

Apart from Naibita, Dakuivuna and Nabulini villagers were also delivered with their building materials yesterday in Tailevu.

Kasabias hardware is one of the six retail companies that are part of the second phase of supplying building materials to villagers affected by TC Winston.

The second phase of the Help for Home initiative was launched in Nayavu Village, Wainibuka on Wednesday.
