Lorima Naqavou Rokotuibau is the lucky winner of Fiji Sun’s Chevrolet Sonic Car Promotion.
His name was picked from thousands of coupons which went into the draw and he will drive away in a new car worth $39,000.
Mr Rokotuibau was lost for words yesterday when he received the news.
At first, the electrician from Burerua Village in Tailevu, was in disbelief.
“Are you sure?” he asked.
But later, as reality for a man who travels by bus to and from work every day sunk in, he could not hold back his emotions.
“I am so excited; I feel so good,” he said.
“I haven’t told my wife yet; I am going to surprise her and cannot wait to see the look on her face when I drive home in my brand new car.”
To enter the draw, readers were required to buy a copy of the Fiji Sun Weekend edition from July till September and fill out a coupon printed inside.
The 33-year-old said he bought a copy every Saturday following the competition’s announcement.
“I knew my chances of winning were slim but all I did was fill in my details and hoped for the best outcome,” he added.
Fiji Sun general manager Advertising and Business Development, Rachna Lal, thanked the loyal readers of the Fiji Sun and confirmed that more promotions were lined up.
She said: “We received up to 45,000 coupons and all I can say is that the response was phenomenal.
“This shows the strength of Fiji Sun in the community. We did not ask people to spend hundreds of dollars to participate.
“All they had to do was simply buy a Saturday Fiji Sun and they automatically went into the draw to win a brand new Chevrolet Sonic worth $39,000.”
Ms Lal said the promotion was done with Vision Motors and Courts and it was a means of strengthening the partnership between the companies.
Vision Motors General Manager Ajay Lal congratulated the winner and expressed his delight at working with Fiji Sun.
He said: “This is not just a car. It’s a Chevrolet Sonic; it’s been inspired by quite advanced engineering and he is a lucky guy.”
Meanwhile, Shayal Gosai of Sabeto, Nadi won the third consolation prize of a 9kg auto-washer washing machine.
