Tailevu Intends to Hold On

The Tailevu women’s rugby team will be making amends against Navosa in their final chance to remain in the Marama championship for next season.

“We will need major improvements in our defence and scrums this weekend as this match will determine whether we retain our spot in the Marama or drop to the Ranadi competition,” head coach Aisiki Saulala said yesterday.

“We also need to change our attitude towards the game because we have a lot of scoring opportunities, but we fell short.”

Saulala said they would continue to focus on their scrum and line-out.

“Our set-piece also needs a bit of polishing to ensure that our attack runs smoothly,” he said.

“I told the players to give their all, their strength against Navosa for a win.”

Saulala said it was a good sign to see that his team was dominant against Kadavu in the first half last week.

“Our defence let us down in the end and we have to be more direct in our attack instead of running sideways,” he said.

“Three of our players are injured from last week’s match but we have replacement available to cover.”

Saulala said the motivation to win their final promotion relegation match against Navosa is to remain in the Marama Championship.

“I think the match will take place in Lautoka at Churchill Park,” he said.

“To all the Tailevu rugby fans please do make your way to the game if you’re free.”

The promotion relegation match between Tailevu and Navosa kicks off at 11am on Saturday.
