Bottom 4 battle for survival

The battle to stay in next season’s Skipper Cup starts tomorrow.

At Churchill Park, Lautoka, sees Macuata takes on hosts Yasawa while at Thomson Park, Navua, is the clash between hosts Namosi and Ba.

The four teams are in danger of playing in the promotion relegation.

Namosi needs to beat Ba to register their first win in the competition after narrow losses to Suva and Naitasiri.

In an earlier interview Namosi captain, Akapusi Roqica, said they have been on a development phase after losing key players like Vinaya Habosi, Kalaveti Ravouvou, Peni Matawalu, Alivereti Veitokani and Johnny Dyer to the Fijian Drua or to overseas clubs.

Namosi head coach Maxwell Hughes said he is confident of a win over Ba.

“Majority of our players in our team are playing in the Skipper Cup for the first time,” Hughes said.

“I am confident that these players will do their job on the field on Saturday.”

Macuata Rugby Union president Saimoni Cabelawa has reiterated the importance of them avoiding being demoted to the Vodafone Vanua Championship.

He said the team knows the importance of the last two remaining games against Yasawa and Tailevu.

“We want to improve our position on the points standing and remain in the Skipper Cup next year,” he said.

After Yasawa’s upset 17-11 win last Saturday, coach, Taione Ratu said they have turned their focus on Macuata.

Yasawa have found their mojo and are now gunning their second win.

Ba coach Vilimoni Delasau said they are more focused on team-work.
