Twenty-four ginger farmers of Waimalau Village in Tailevu have praised Government for assisting them.

Lekima Soqo, 20, said: “I am doing farming for the first time and ginger farming is my first experiences.

“Ginger farming is good and I will generate more income for my household.

“The Government has been providing us with seedlings and fertilizer for ginger farming.

“We are thankful to the government and we are hoping to get some more help from them. I think ginger farming is good and we also get an opportunity to contribute towards economic growth for our country,” he said.

Kelepi Nasinu said: “The ginger farming is really helpful towards my community and I thank the government for their support towards ginger farming.”

Divisional Manager Central for Integrated Human Resources development Programme (IHRDP) Aslam Khan said: “The 24 farmers were really benefiting from ginger farming in Waimalua Village.

“The project started last year and farmers have harvested 40 tonnes of ginger. The Government has contributed $46,000, and $10,000 has been contributed by the farmers.

“The IHRDP is interjecting money in those communities who can generate money back in their communities,” he said.
