Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has urged Fijians to turn their backs on false prophets preaching doom and spreading lies to suit their agendas.
Speaking at the opening of the Qelekuro Village water supply system in Tailevu yesterday, he said the truth was that the future of the iTaukei – the future of the entire nation – had never been brighter.
He said they would hear from his political opponents that Fijians, especially the iTaukei, were being disadvantaged under this Government.
“I want you to decide the truth of their claim. Because I respect the intelligence and common sense of the Fijian people and their ability to judge for themselves,” he said.
He reminded them that these were the people who were given the opportunity to deliver the same level of services when they were in office but failed to do so.
“They are all talk and no action. False promises now to match the false promises they made when they were in office and delivered nothing substantial at all.”
He urged them to look at the evidence and decide for themselves.
“Who has provided your children with free schooling and the best possible chance any young Fijian has ever had to get a higher education – to go to a university or technical college and fulfil their dreams and those of their families? FijiFirst.
“Who has united our country as never before? Ended the years of division and argument and set us up for the future we deserve – one nation, one people with opportunity and prosperity for all? FijiFirst.
“Who has produced one of the longest periods of economic growth in Fiji – 5.3 per cent last year – with all that means for the creation of jobs and opportunity? FijiFirst.”
He called on the peopIe in Qelekuro and throughout Tailevu to reject the message of division being spread by their political opponents.
Prime Minister Bainimarama said it was simply a lie for the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) to say the iTaukei were disadvantaged because the truth was – the iTaukei people had never been stronger.
