Veteran goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau aims for a spot to the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The 35-year-old Naisaumua, Tailevu, native said he had lost 10 kilograms through solid training since the Pacific Cup outing in New Zealand last year.

This is to trim down for the Rio Olympics.

“There are a lot of young players in the team and playing in the Rio Olympics will be a pinnacle of any sporting career,” the Nasinu-based Policeman said.

“Age is just another number and I have to be fit and make sacrifice to be this far.”

Tamanisau wants to ne one of the three senior players allowed in each U23 Olympic squad.

He was part of the Vodafone Fijian Under-23 squad that departed for their Spain tour yesterday.

“This will definitely assist us in the preparation for the road to Rio by playing clubs in Spain.”

Meanwhile, Nadroga striker Anish Khem, 22, said: “I’m looking forward to it. It is all about exposure.”

Fiji FA technical director Frank Farina said there was a lot of work to be done in terms of preparation.

“Six games in three weeks is fantastic preparation and a great experience for the team to travel to European country that has different culture, different football playing style.

“We are playing against good teams, the results for me are irrelevant. We are moulding this team into a playing style and structure we want to play,” he said. Edited by Maikeli Seru
