Major remediation work by Fulton Hogan Hiways Joint Venture (FHHJV) is making a difference to the Kings Road, north of Korovou, Tailevu.
The sections of Kings Road undergoing remediation include the recently completed Verata Straight and the sites of the Naiborebore and Kasavu slips.
“At the Naiborebore slip, it has been necessary to divert traffic twice, with the initial temporary road being diverted once the top of the road was excavated. In the second diversion, traffic has been diverted to a level and alignment similar to the original pre-slip Kings Road,” said FHHJV project engineer, Wian Cadle.
The work includes the construction of batters, or earth slopes, on the downslope from the road, using material from the slip as fill.
At Kasavu, the slip last year resulted in the loss of half of the road when a section became waterlogged and slipped down the hill.
“We intend to interrupt traffic as little as possible, although keeping the construction area safe is our first priority.
“I advise motorists to follow the traffic management put in place, both for their safety and for the safety of the contractors.” FHHJV
